Siaya Governor James Aggrey Bob Orengo on Wednesday officially opened a maternity theatre at Matangwe Mission Hospital in North Sakwa Ward.
The construction and equipping of the theatre were facilitated by Caring Partners Global (CPG), a Canadian-based organization. The modern facility boasts a diathermy machine for controlling bleeding, an ECG machine, an anaesthesia machine, a suction machine, a ventilator, and an oxygen concentrator, among other equipment.

The theatre will offer surgical procedures such as Caesarean sections, as well as minor and general surgical operations in obstetrics and gynaecology.
Currently, the facility serves residents of North Sakwa, West Asembo, and West Uyoma Wards.
Matangwe Mission Hospital was founded in 2001 by the late Stephen Scott Ondiek, who served as its Director until his demise in 2022. It is part of the Matangwe Community Health and Development Program, a Community-Based Organization currently managed by his widow, Mrs. Silvia Scott, who is the current Director. Another key initiator of the project is Mr. Wilfred Nyagudi who introduced the Caring Partners Global Organization to the region.
Governor Orengo was accompanied by CECM for Health and Sanitation Dr. Martin K’Onyango, Chief Officer in charge of Governance, Administration and ICT Mr. Walter Okelo, the Director of Public Communication, Mr. Chrispine Omondi, the Medical Officer of Health for Bondo sub-County, Bondo Municipality Manager Mr. Philip Wasonga, Mr. John Anyango, the Bondo Sub County Administrator, Mr. Vincent Kanyangoda, Mr. Fredrick Opang’a (Youth Coordinator in the Office of the Governor), and the North Sakwa Ward Administrator, Mr. Willis Ang’awa, among others.
