Players from Siaya have been urged to showcase their talents at the 10th edition of Kenya Youth Inter-County Sports Association (KYISA) to gain opportunities in various sports clubs.
According to County Executive Comittee Member in-charge of Tourism and Sports Anjeline Oduor officials from various sports clubs will pitch tent in Homabay County this week to pick best players.
“We have not ceased to support such initiatives because previously they earned opportunities for our youths that helped expose their talents,” said Oduor, adding “Though we look forward to receive trophies in various disciplines but the most important thing is for our best players to gain entry into various clubs for further development of their gifted talents.”
Madam Oduor was speaking during the flagging off of more than 100 youths going to participate at the 10th Edition of KYISA Games in Homa-bay County.
She also appreciated Governor James Orengo for kitting the athletes and providing other logistics that enhance their stay in Homabay for the next 7 days.
“We want to thank Governor Orengo for supporting sporting activities that touch on the youth. Not all counties attended the Kilifi KYISA Games, we had only 30 Counties and Siaya was among them and now that we are set off for Homa-bay, only 23 counties have confirmed attendance. This is a favour done to you so you can only thank him by bringing trophies home,” said Madam Oduor.
Chief Officer Judith Oyugi asked the youths to uphold discipline while doing what they know how to do best in the fields.
“We expect total discipline from all players while in Homabay,” she added.
Deputy Director of Sports John Ang’awa noted that Siaya has in the past featured in the map of Kenya for producing exemplary players.
He revealed that KYISA Games that took place in Siaya in 2016, six ladies volleyballers were picked and absorbed by Kenya Ports Authority(KPA).
In 2019 when KYISA Games was held in Busia, a goalkeeper from Siaya County was absorbed by Ulinzi stars while a volleyballer from our County was scouted and now plays internationally in Greece.
“Investment we have put in such initiatives as a County have payed off and we want to urge the 2025 participants to put more efforts for their gifted talents to help sustain their livelihoods in future,” said Ang’awa.
