Former radio presenter Joyce Gituro has owned up that her personal pride stopped her from reaching out to her husband to salvage their marriage.
In an interview on Radio Jambo, Joyce candidly discussed how her actions, particularly inaction or lack of communication, played a significant role in the divorce.
“I withdrew from my husband,” said Joyce, adding “I opted for silence rather than engaging in difficult conversations.”
As a hindsight she now blames her pride as preventing her from addressing issues directly, leading to a rift that eventually proved insurmountable.
“I should have made my husband my best friend,” she regretfully looks back.
Despite her husband’s attempts to reconcile, Joyce felt that the damage was already done. She noted how women check out emotionally very early , noting that both partners had grown tired of the relationship. This emotional distance ultimately made it impossible to repair their marriage.
Joyce and her husband got divorced in 2008. They had three children from the marriage and have continued to maintain a cordial relationship for the sake of the children.
She revealed in the interview that they occasionally communicate about parenting matters, which underscores their commitment to co-parenting despite their personal differences.
The daughter of Eldoret quarry magnate SN Gituro, Joyce had an entitled childhood, a fact that could have contributed to being headstrong in marriage.
With vast experience behind her she now urges couples to give marriage partners their best and never shut down on communication.
“Most marriages that end up in divorce can be salvaged if the couple sits down and talks things through. Just talking enables partners to see things in a different and broader light”, says Joyce.
Joyce’s insights reveal the importance of communication in relationships, especially in overcoming challenges and misunderstandings. Her reflections serve as a poignant reminder of the complexities involved in maintaining a healthy marital bond.
