The Law Society of Kenya today nabbed a woman land surveyor who has been masquerading as an advocate of the High Court of Kenya for several years now.
The woman (name withheld) was frog-marched under tight security to the Siaya Police Station by the LSK team led by Teresia Wavinya Nicholas.
For years now, the fake lawyer has drawn land transaction agreements and even successfully prosecuted land conveyancing suits within the court precincts of Siaya.
The Law Society of Kenya has called upon Kenyans to be vigilant when engaging lawyers. One of the simplest ways to ascertain whether a lawyer is legitimate is to visit the LSK and Judicial Service Commission websites where there’s a concurrent Roll of Advocates (listing authorized practicing lawyers).

“It’s unfortunate that the culprit has been duping the public, drawing pleadings, especially conveyancing pleadings for sell and transfer of land,” said Teresia Wavinya outside the Siaya Police Station, adding “We normally receive complaints from the public that our advocates have collected litigation fee and never went through with the cases only to discover that the Advocate in question was a quack and not a member of the LSK. I want to pleas with the public that before you engage an advocate please confirm that he is a practicing lawyer registered with LSK “.
The culprit will spend the night at Siaya Police Station where she is being processed in readiness for arraignment in court tomorrow.
Wavinya confirmed that the crackdown on fake lawyers is continuing countrywide.
