Nairobi County Chief Officer for Environment Geoffrey Mosiria has come out to condemn as sponsored fake propaganda a leaked Whatsapp conversation between Nairobi City County Governor Johnson Arthur Sakaja and himself.
The leaked conversation screenshot and shared extensively on social media Friday night indicates that Mosiria and Sakaja were involved in the hiring of goons who infiltrated the Thursday protests in Nairobi CBD and occasioned the destruction of property of unknown value. (A vehicle torched by the infiltrators has been traced to a State House security operative).
Already a reverse search has revealed that the group chat could have belonged to an existing group that is exclusively made up of senior members of Nairobi County Government.
Whether it’s prudent that Mosiria and the Governor can openly discuss such a sensitive matter, if it was true, in an open Whatsapp group is under investigation. The tone and language response from Governor Sakaja in the chat is however typical and if it was a fake then indeed it’s a deep fake.
The screenshot indicates the participation of Governor Sakaja, Geoffrey Mosiria and a personal assistant (PA) with the moniker Davy, whom sources have confirmed actually exists.
In the group chat, they were allegedly boasting of how the goons that they sent on Thursday were successful in infiltrating the peaceful protests, that were aimed at fighting for justice for the late Albert Ojwang.
In the screenshot, Geoffrey Mosiria also alleges to have hired the goons to vandalize the newly installed litter bins of Nairobi City County Government so as to lend credibility to vandalism making the infiltration more genuine, a fact that cannot be disputed.

Sakaja’s claim in the chat that he was merely on a PR exercise when offering employment for the wife of Ojwang and to educate Miles, the son, would also confirm an initial suspicion held by the public.
So was the leaked screenshot genuine or fake as Mosiria claims.
Without a detailed fact check, the chat would appear genuine.
