The High Court in Nairobi on Monday 30 June 2025 ordered the Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja to produce blogger Ndiangui Kinyagia who has gone missing since June 21.
The last time he was seen free was ten days ago at his home in Kinoo area within the outskirts of Nairobi where he was allegedly abducted by masked men.
Justice Chacha Mwita issued the order during the hearing of an application filed by the Law Society of Kenya (LSK).
Justice Mwita directed IG Kanja to produce Kinyagia in court on Tuesday, July 1, at 11:00 am without fail or provide an explanation for his continued disappearance.
“I have taken into account the fact that the second applicant has not been found for 10 days and that the life of a citizen is in danger,” the High Court judge stated.
Justice Mwita also directed that the application be served on the respondents by close of business on Monday and responses to be filed within seven days.
The blogger’s whereabouts remain unknown, and his disappearance has drawn national attention, with rights groups and civil society organizations demanding his release.
“Free Ndiangui Kinyagia. He was last seen on June 21 after a reported raid by DCI officers at his home in Kinoo. We call for his immediate release. If he is accused of any crime, let him be presented before a court of law—not held incommunicado,” Amnesty Kenya said in a statement.
Before going missing, Kinyagia had shared a timetable for the Wednesday, June 25, protests on his X account.
The timetable outlined a nationwide plan for demonstrations, including a march to State House Nairobi.
