A freak Sunday morning fire gutted dormitories at Embakasi Girls Secondary School in Mukuru area of Nairobi.
Even as the Kenya Red Cross Society and firemen from the Nairobi City County Government fought and contained the inferno its cause is yet-to-be-established.

The Kenya Red Cross emergency response team was the first to arrive at the scene of the incidence and posted the cryptic message on their X handle:
“Fire at Embakasi Girls’ School, Nairobi County. Efforts to contain it are underway.”
Immediately the police, the Nairobi Fire Brigade and Community-Based Response teams arrived at the school grounds only to encounter flames and smoke billowing from the three-storey building housing dormitories.
Property and learning materials of a yet-to-be-disclosed value were damaged in the fire.
The students watched from the ground as the raging flames and smoke billowed from the windows of the topmost floor of the block.
Among the leaders who arrived at the scene were Embakasi East MP Babu Owino who had earlier on empathized with the students and teachers at the school.
The lawmaker shared in the pain of the losses incurred by the school following the tragedy.
“We are deeply saddened to learn about the devastating fire at Embakasi Girls High School, Embakasi South constituency, which has caused significant damage to property and the learning environment. In this difficult time, please know that our thoughts are with the students, teachers, staff, and families affected by this unfortunate incident. While the loss is great, we stand in full solidarity with the school community as they begin the journey of recovery and rebuilding. Tragedies like this remind us of the strength of unity and support,” he said.
Later in an update, the Kenya Red Cross Society confirmed that the fire had been contained.

At least three students were injured and treated at the scene.
The assessment of property damaged is still underway.
“The fire has been contained by Nairobi City County Fire Brigade, Kenya Red Cross and community members. One dormitory was affected. Three injured students were attended to by Kenya Red Cross first responders. Damage assessment is ongoing,” the agency posted.
