Insider sources have revealed that during a conversation with government bigwigs last week President Dr William Samoei Ruto let out that plans are underway to woo outspoken Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya and former Interior CS Dr. Fred Matiang’i to the Kenya Kwanza camp ahead of the 2027 elections.
The president is said to have confidently allayed the fears of his henchmen that his plan was a masterstroke guaranteed to hand him victory and a second term.
According to a national daily the plan could scatter the opposition by snatching top figures from the outfit and drawing them to the president’s side ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Others targeted in the plot are Wiper Party Leader Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka who is known to shift sides with ease whenever elections heat up and former President Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta who is emerging as a kingpin of the Mount Kenya region.
If the grand plan materializes then Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua will be left high and dry with his support base existing only online.
The plot has been leaked by Nation Media Group’s Swahili newspaper Taifa Leo. The Head of State revealed this plan to his allies at a meeting at State House last week.
Ruto’s allies had raised concerns that looking at the heightened political climate in the country his administration was likely to be defeated in the upcoming 2027 general elections.
The source reported that the president was confident, with good reason, the plan will get through.
