During an intensive door-to-door campaign visit in Sidindi Ward on Monday, Ugunja Constituency by-election candidate Otieno Alur received a heroic welcome that reflected a strong wave of grassroots support sweeping across the area.
What stood out most during this strategic engagement was the remarkable unity and resolve demonstrated by the residents of Sidindi Ward, who declared with passion and clarity that they are fully behind Mheshimiwa Otieno Alur.
The message from the people was consistent and powerful: “Let Mheshimiwa Otieno Alur count on our support and our votes in full solidarity.” Residents spoke in strong and unwavering terms, insisting that this is indeed Otieno Alur’s moment and hour, and no one should dare stand in his path. The political mood in Sidindi is now fully aligned with the broader feeling across Ugunja Constituency—that leadership must now shift to Ugunja Ward under the capable hands of Mheshimiwa Otieno Alur.
What’s even more remarkable is that both Sigomre and Sidindi Wards have openly embraced this new political reality. There is a deep sense of unity among the people, who agree that anyone attempting to oppose Mheshimiwa Otieno Alur is, in essence, standing against the collective will of the people of Ugunja Constituency.
From what was witnessed during the visit, it is clear that the names of other aspirants—such as Moses Omondi and Eng. ZB Owino—are mostly being floated around by a few bloggers and known sycophants like Mos Mos, Omwende, and Wod Lod. On the ground, however, the reality is starkly different. Their names are barely mentioned, and even more telling is the fact that a majority of constituents cannot identify them physically. The truth, as observed firsthand, is that Mheshimiwa Otieno Alur is the only candidate whose name is actively being discussed—in homes, in marketplaces, and in every political conversation within the community.
Politically, socially, and even in casual village settings, Otieno Alur’s name reigns supreme. In contrast, his opponents appear as mere social media scarecrows—visible online but absent on the ground. They lack political structures, grassroots support, and even identifiable bases in any of the wards.
Moses Omondi seems to be relying on top-down support from Hon. Opiyo Wandayi and a presumed goodwill from the people of Ugunja Constituency—a gamble that looks increasingly uncertain. He is also banking on ODM grassroots backing, which is visibly shifting toward Otieno Alur. The ODM base is, in fact, gravitating toward where the people are—and that direction points firmly toward Mheshimiwa Otieno Alur.
As for Eng. ZB Owino, there are whispers likening his political conduct to that of the Biblical Joseph of Arimathea. It is believed that, silently and behind closed doors, he is backing Mheshimiwa Otieno Alur and may ultimately play a quiet but pivotal role in politically burying Moses Omondi—figuratively speaking—at the symbolic “Gardens of Gethsemane.”
All signs from the ground—across wards and within the community—indicate one undeniable truth: Mheshimiwa Otieno Alur is the front-runner and the people’s choice. The momentum is his. The moment is his. And by all indications, Ugunja Constituency is on course to elect Mheshimiwa Otieno Alur as its next Member of Parliament in the upcoming by-election slated for December.
