The Director of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Mr. Mohamed I. Amin, today presided over the opening of the induction training programme for officers deployed to the Internal Affairs Unit (IAU). The ceremony took place at the National Police Leadership Academy (NPLA), with Mr. Amin representing the Inspector General of the National Police Service, Mr. Douglas Kanja.
In his remarks, Mr. Amin hailed the training—held in partnership with the International Justice Mission—as a vital step toward transforming the National Police Service into a more accountable, professional, and people-centric institution.
Mr. Amin urged the officers to serve with professionalism, integrity, and selflessness, values essential to earning and sustaining public trust, as well as propelling the IAU toward the highest standards of institutional accountability.
He also expressed sincere gratitude to the International Justice Mission (IJM) for their continued support in critical areas that significantly contribute to the well-being of police officers and the Service’s improvement.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Vincent Chahale, Country Director of the International Justice Mission, reaffirmed IJM’s commitment to supporting the Service in promoting justice and accountability within the Police Service. Mr. Chahale reminded the trainees that their roles directly influence public perception and the overall legitimacy of the police in Kenya.
During the training, participants will undergo intensive training covering critical topics, including police oversight, adherence to human rights standards, anti-corruption strategies, and internal accountability mechanisms, essential for strengthening institutional integrity, upholding the rule of law, and fostering professional policing standards.
Also in attendance were the IAU Director, Mr. Boniface Maingi, SAIG; NPLA Commandant, Mr. Kainga Mathiu, AIG; Deputy Commandant NPLA, Dr. David Muthondeki, CP; Dean of Studies NPLA, Ms. Sicily Gatiti, CP; and other senior officers.
