Siaya, Kenya – Tuesday, August 5, 2025
Siaya County Assembly Speaker George Okode has dismissed claims circulating on social media suggesting Governor James Orengo has resigned, terming them “malicious propaganda” aimed at destabilizing the county government.
Speaking on Monday, Okode urged Siaya residents to ignore the “sideshows” and continue seeking services from county departments, noting that the Governor remains firmly in office and will resume duties soon.
“There is too much noise out there, but you must keep your eye on the ball,” said Okode. “Departmental heads should not be swayed by distractions. Their focus must remain on delivering services to the people of Siaya.”
The Speaker was reacting to a fake resignation letter that had gone viral, purporting to be authored by Governor Orengo and addressed to the County Assembly. The forgery comes amid an ongoing smear campaign targeting the Governor’s administration.
Okode further instructed all heads of department to strengthen their operations and realign service delivery strategies to meet the expectations of residents during the Governor’s temporary absence.
“As we wait for Governor Orengo to resume duties, each departmental leader must put in place strategies that prioritize the interests of Siaya residents,” he added.
Dismissing the forged letter as the work of political saboteurs, Okode condemned what he described as a “desperate scheme” to discredit the Orengo-led administration.
“These busybodies started with false claims that the Governor had been poisoned. When that failed, they emerged with a baseless petition. Now they’ve resorted to fake resignation letters,” he said. “Governor Orengo has not contravened any law by being away from office. Our people should ignore such falsehoods.”
The Speaker reaffirmed his confidence in the current government, calling on the public to remain calm and focused on development.
“This government is working, and no amount of propaganda will stop our service to the people. The saboteurs will not succeed in their mischievous agenda,” he concluded.
