Tuesday night chaos as fire guts Sasaline section; traders count massive losses
A devastating fire erupted late Tuesday night at Kisumu Bus Park, reportedly sparked by a food vendor’s stall before rapidly spreading through the crowded Sasaline section.
Emergency teams scrambled to contain the inferno, with Kisumu City Manager Michael Abala Wanga personally leading the response effort on-site. Wanga was seen coordinating firefighting operations and offering support to affected traders amid the night-long turmoil.
By the time the flames were doused, dozens of stalls and nearby structures lay in ruins, with property worth millions of shillings destroyed. Scores of small business owners are now grappling with the loss of livelihoods, even as authorities launch investigations to determine the exact cause of the blaze.
“This is a heartbreaking moment for our traders,” said Wanga. “We are working around the clock to ensure safety, assess damages, and support recovery efforts.”
No fatalities have been reported so far. Further updates are expected as investigations continue.
