The County Government of Siaya is deepening ties with the Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) in a bid to unlock financing and partnerships for its flagship development programs.
Governor James Orengo, meeting with a delegation from the KCB Group led by Managing Director Anastacia Kimutai, hailed the bank for its consistent support to the county in critical sectors. He particularly singled out assistance in healthcare, citing KCB’s input in the fight against HIV and malaria, and its role in equipping surgical theatres—two of which are already complete out of the four planned.
Orengo outlined priority areas where the county seeks stronger collaboration: agriculture, the blue economy, small and medium enterprises (SMEs), and infrastructure development. He disclosed that Siaya is in the process of registering over 20,000 farmers and negotiating with the bank to channel county employees’ returns through KCB.
The governor also extended an invitation for KCB to serve as the premier sponsor of key county events, including the Siaya Trade, Investment and Industrial Conference (SITICO).
“We are determined to host a proper investment conference that will attract significant participation. Siaya has already secured over 100 hectares in Alego Usonga for future investments, and we want KCB to walk with us in making this a reality,” Orengo said.
On the county’s ambitious projects, Orengo reiterated support for the proposed nuclear power plant that is expected to inject over 6,000 megawatts into the national grid. He dismissed propaganda portraying the project as unsafe, stressing that international safety standards are being observed.
KCB MD Anastacia Kimutai lauded Governor Orengo’s vision and intellect, praising Siaya as a county with untapped potential. She pledged the bank’s backing for projects aligned with the Nyalore Manifesto, including youth programs under the KCB Tujiajiri initiative, which has already mobilized KSh 27 million.
Kimutai announced the rollout of a new product designed to integrate with the county’s revenue systems while offering attractive interest rates. She said the bank will also back solarization for clean energy, Wi-Fi expansion in collaboration with Safaricom, and women’s economic empowerment, with KSh 600 million already earmarked for online lending to women entrepreneurs.
“We celebrate Siaya as a county that is ready for growth. This is a partnership built on mutual trust and shared goals,” Kimutai said.
During the meeting, KCB confirmed a KSh 20 million sponsorship for SITICO and renewed its commitment to supporting healthcare, agriculture, blue economy ventures, and women-led businesses.
Also present were CECM for Trade Grace Agola, who emphasized the county’s readiness to host SITICO, and Finance CECM (Ag.) George Nyingiro, alongside Chief of Staff Col. (Rtd) Cyrus Oguna, Chief Officer for Governance and ICT Walter Okelo, and senior KCB officials from Bondo, Ugunja, Kisumu Main, Kisumu West, and United Mall branches.
With the county’s ambitious programs and KCB’s strategic financial support, the partnership signals a new chapter in Siaya’s bid to transform itself into a regional hub for investment and innovation.
