A chilling wave of violence swept across the country over the weekend, leaving a trail of death from Kisumu to Siaya, Kitui, and Nairobi.
In Kisumu’s Kogony village, 24-year-old Emily Otieno was brutally killed by her boyfriend in a shocking panga attack on Saturday night. Police said Emily was in the company of friends when her lover, identified only as Victor, stormed the house after trailing them.
Witnesses said the man slashed her on the neck, killing her instantly, as the friends scattered in terror. The couple had reportedly been embroiled in domestic disputes before the fatal confrontation. Victor fled the scene and is now the subject of a police manhunt.
The killing is the latest in a series of deadly love-related disputes reported in the region.
Elsewhere in Barkowino village, Bondo, Siaya County, a domestic fight turned deadly after Felix Nyagola, 50, was killed by his wife. Police said the woman attacked him with a broom during a quarrel that escalated into violence. His body, bearing injuries to the head, shoulder, and limbs, was discovered leaning against a wall in their rented house. She has since been arrested and is expected in court to face murder charges.
In Kakumuti, Musengo, Kitui County, the body of Mutemi Katila, 60, was found dumped near a bridge with a deep cut to the neck. Police suspect he was attacked with a sharp object, though the motive of the killing remains unclear.
And in Ruai, Nairobi, mob justice claimed the life of a tout suspected of being part of a gang terrorizing residents. The man was lynched after a failed robbery attempt on Saturday night. Police condemned the incident, warning locals against taking the law into their own hands.
All the bodies were taken to mortuaries pending autopsies as investigations continue.
