Man Who Speared GSU Officer Outside State House Claims ‘Satan Sent Him’

Police are holding a 56-year-old man who allegedly speared and killed a General Service Unit (GSU) officer guarding State House, Nairobi, in a shocking mid-morning attack on Monday.

The suspect, identified as Kinyuka Kinyumi, told investigators that he was “sent by Satan” to carry out the fatal assault.

“This man claims he was sent by Satan to attack the police officer. He killed him, and he is lucky to be alive himself,” said an officer familiar with the case.

According to witnesses, Kinyumi approached Gate D — a section commonly used by members of the public to access the State House — pretending to be a street dweller. He carried a sack in which he had concealed a spear.

The suspect reportedly hid behind a flower bed before emerging to spear the officer, who was then conducting a routine security check with two colleagues on a car entering the compound. The weapon struck the officer in the left side of the chest, fatally wounding him.

The officer, attached to the GSU’s G Company, was rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival after suffering massive blood loss.

Kinyumi was subdued and arrested at the scene as panic spread among nearby officers. He is currently being interrogated by detectives to establish his motive and mental condition.

Senior officers, including Kilimani Sub-County Police Commander Patricia Yegon and DCI chief Hussein Mahat, visited both the scene and the hospital where the officer’s body was taken.

Authorities said preliminary investigations had not yet established whether the suspect knew the slain officer.

The attack comes barely 24 hours after another GSU officer was strangled and drowned near Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) following an altercation with an unidentified man. The suspect in that case has also been arrested.

The slain State House officer was among those assigned to guard sensitive presidential installations under the GSU’s elite G Company, which secures the President’s residences and state lodges across the country.
