This public apology is issued voluntarily, without coercion, pressure, or external influence, following a comprehensive review conducted by our internal investigation team regarding an article published on our platforms on Tuesday 21st October, 2025, titled:
“Shock as 40 Donated Bulls Vanish in Siaya, Investigators Probe Governor’s Protocol Team.”
After due diligence, extensive verification, and interviews with multiple stakeholders, we wish to clarify and correct the record as follows:
1. The truth of the matter is that the livestock in question were not missing as earlier reported. A number of cows were temporarily kept for safe holding at a nearby secondary school with the full knowledge and authorization of the burial committee and event organizers. These animals were later fully accounted for.
2. It has since been established that the Governor’s Protocol team, under the leadership of Mr. Peter Mbeka, was not involved at any stage in the handling, storage, or transfer of the livestock. Their role was strictly peripheral, limited to coordination duties related to the event organization.
3. The initial contributor of the story has admitted that they failed to reach out to the individuals mentioned, particularly Mr. Mbeka, for comment or verification prior to publication — a fundamental requirement in ethical and balanced journalism.
4. As the management of DALANEWSKE INVESTMENT, we acknowledge our own failure in not conducting an independent verification of the submitted information before it went live on our news platforms — the offending article has since been pulled down.
5. We also note that this is not the first instance where sources domiciled in the County headquarters has provided controversial leads. In 2023, a series of reports were later proven to be spurred by internal wrangling among senior personnel within the said offices, culminating in the resignation of the then Director of Governor’s Press Unit. We will therefore observe heightened diligence from news emanating from this quarters and as a sign of goodwill have permanently ceased associating with this specific contributor.
6. While DALANEWSKE remains committed to maintaining its position as Siaya County’s most reliable and trusted source of local news, we recognize that errors do occasionally occur. We continue to uphold the highest standards of journalistic integrity, fairness, and accuracy, and we are strengthening our editorial verification procedures to prevent a recurrence.
7. We therefore tender this unreserved apology to Mr. Peter Mbeka, Head of Protocol at the Siaya County Government, and to all other parties who may have been adversely affected or inconvenienced by the publication of the earlier story. In this regard we will endeavor to share this apology on all our platforms and associated platforms.
Finally, we appreciate Mr. Mbeka’s cooperation and patience during our follow-up verification process and regret that this clarification has come belatedly.
Signed,
Management & Editorial Board
