The National Police Service (NPS) has announced a series of critical updates to its ongoing police constables recruitment exercise, with several recruitment centres across the country affected.
In a statement released on Friday, November 7, Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja Kirocho confirmed that the adjustments involve both additions and corrections to earlier-advertised recruitment venues.
“The National Police Service wishes to bring to the attention of the public that the following additions and corrections have been made to the recruitment centres for police constables,” the notice stated.
Among the major updates, ex-National Youth Service (NYS) candidates can now present themselves either at their home sub-county recruitment centres or at the NYS Headquarters in Ruaraka, Nairobi, which was inadvertently omitted from the initial notice.
Additionally, the NPS has clarified changes in several counties. In Kajiado County, the Kajiado West Sub-County recruitment centre has been relocated to Ole Polos, while Elangata Wuas recruits will now report to the Elangata Wuas DCC’s Office. In Narok County, the Narok West Sub-County recruitment centre has been shifted to Ng’oswani Centre.
Inspector General Kanja assured the public that “all other details contained in the previous advertisement remain unchanged.”
The nationwide recruitment exercise is scheduled for Monday, November 17, and will run from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at designated centres across all counties.
Eligibility and Requirements
Applicants must be Kenyan citizens aged between 18 and 28 years, holding a valid national ID card, and having attained a minimum KCSE grade of D+, including at least a D+ in English or Kiswahili.
Candidates must also be physically and medically fit, with a minimum height of 5 feet 8 inches (men) and 5 feet 3 inches (women). Those with criminal records will be automatically disqualified, while female candidates must not be pregnant during recruitment or training.
NYS graduates who meet the above criteria are encouraged to apply and should carry their discharge certificate showing a conduct rating of “Good” or higher.
Application Procedure
Prospective recruits are required to download and complete the official application forms available on the websites of the National Police Service, Kenya Police, Administration Police, DCI, and MyGov. Physical copies can also be collected from the nearest Huduma Centres.
On the recruitment day, candidates must appear in person with original and photocopies of their academic certificates, national ID, and birth certificate. All original documents will be returned after verification.
NPS Warning on Corruption
The NPS has issued a stern warning against bribery and manipulation during the exercise, emphasizing that the process is free, transparent, and merit-based.
“Engaging in bribery or any other form of corrupt practice with the intent to influence the recruitment process constitutes a criminal offence,” the notice warned. “Any person who gives false or misleading information to the National Police Service will be prosecuted.”
The latest adjustments aim to ensure a smooth and fair recruitment exercise as the NPS seeks to bolster its ranks with disciplined, qualified, and patriotic officers.
