A dramatic police operation along the busy Mombasa–Nairobi highway on Friday saw officers from Samburu Police Station arrest a suspected drug trafficker and seize an SUV loaded with sacks of bhang, dealing a major blow to the illegal narcotics trade in the region.
Acting swiftly on a tip-off from vigilant members of the public, the officers mounted an impromptu stop near the DEVKI Steel plant. Moments later, a sleek Mazda CX-5, registration number KDR 284H, approached the checkpoint—its occupants sensing danger and scattering in different directions in a desperate attempt to evade arrest.
Their escape bid was short-lived. Police officers gave chase and apprehended one of the suspects, identified as Christopher Hannington Jobita, before he could flee the scene. Upon searching the vehicle, officers uncovered several sacks of bhang neatly packed in the boot, confirming suspicions of a high-level trafficking operation.
Jobita was immediately escorted to Samburu Police Station, where he is undergoing processing ahead of his arraignment. The impounded SUV and seized narcotics have been secured as exhibits as investigators intensify a manhunt for the fugitive accomplice who managed to escape in the chaos.
Police have praised the public for continued cooperation and issued a fresh appeal for information that could help dismantle drug distribution networks in the county.
