League Minnows APS Bomet Humiliate Overconfident Gor Mahia 4–1 in Season’s Biggest Upset

Record Kenyan giants Gor Mahia suffered one of their most humiliating defeats in recent memory after being ruthlessly dismantled 4–1 by relegation-threatened APS Bomet in a dramatic SportPesa League upset at Nyayo National Stadium on Tuesday afternoon.

The loss — Gor Mahia’s first in eight matches — shattered their unbeaten run and handed league debutants APS Bomet only their second win of the season, sending shockwaves through Kenyan football and igniting furious debate among fans ahead of the Mashemeji Derby.

Gor Mahia’s Early Spark Turns Into a Full-Blown Meltdown

K’Ogalo looked to be cruising early when George Amonoo scored his maiden goal for the club in the 5th minute, reacting sharply to a Lawrence Juma corner. But what started as a perfect afternoon spiraled into a nightmare as Gor Mahia’s heavily rotated squad failed to withstand a spirited Bomet onslaught.

Former AFC Leopards forward Hansel Ochieng delivered a performance of a lifetime, scoring a clinical hat-trick that left Gor’s defense in shambles and their fans stunned into silence.

Bomet’s Stunning Comeback: From Bottom-Dwellers to Giant-Killers

APS Bomet, who entered the match languishing near the bottom of the table, showed none of the fear expected from underdogs. Coach Bernard Wanjala fielded his strongest lineup — a strategic gamble that paid off spectacularly.

After an early warning shot in the second minute, Hansel punished Gor’s disjointed backline repeatedly:

23’ – Hansel equalized from the penalty spot after Kibwage’s clumsy challenge.

44’ – He struck again with a sharp low finish to make it 2–1 before halftime.

78’ – He completed his hat-trick following Omondi’s spilled save in a devastating counterattack.

Gor’s late attempts to mount a comeback — aided by the introductions of Austine Odhiambo, Enock Morrison, Shariff Musa and Paul Ochuoga — did little to stem the Bomet tide.

With Gor collapsing under pressure, Rodgers Kipkemoi iced the game in the 87th minute with a delightful chip over Omondi, sealing a historic 4–1 triumph.

Immediately thereafter Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen reacted by effusively congratulating the APS Bomet, also known as the Black Berets. Onesmus Kipchumba Murkomen is the patron of APS Bomet football club.

A Crushing Blow Before the Mashemeji Derby

The defeat raises urgent questions for Gor Mahia boss Charles Akonnor, whose heavy squad rotation ahead of the AFC Leopards showdown backfired disastrously.

The 21-time champions must now regroup quickly, with fans worried that the morale-shattering loss could derail their derby preparations and league ambitions.

Meanwhile, APS Bomet’s remarkable victory lifts them to 17th place — and injects fresh belief into their fight for survival.

APS Bomet: Season revived with their second win and biggest result in club history

As Nyayo fans filed out in disbelief, one thing was clear:
APS Bomet didn’t just win — they announced themselves on the big stage.

Gor Mahia, bruised and battered, must now pick up the pieces.
