A dramatic multi-county manhunt has ended in spectacular fashion after detectives from Kilifi North finally cornered a man accused of orchestrating a string of high-level cryptocurrency scams targeting unsuspecting Kenyans.
Bavon Onyancha Masese — who investigators say also used the aliases Abdirahaman Abdikarim and Jamie Damon — was smoked out in Kiamunyi, Nakuru County, bringing to a halt what detectives describe as a well-oiled digital con network. His arrest followed revelations that a Kilifi woman had allegedly been swindled out of KSh 3.9 million, instantly putting the suspect at the centre of a high-priority criminal probe.
According to investigators, Masese’s digital footprints linked him to multiple suspicious crypto transactions, illicit platforms, and fraudulent SIM card operations believed to have been used to siphon money from victims across the country. Detectives say the arrest caps weeks of surveillance and tactical tracking.
Masese is expected to be arraigned at the Kilifi Law Courts, where he will face a litany of charges, including:
Money laundering
Unauthorized SIM card registration
Obtaining money by false pretence
Conspiracy to defraud
