Kenya’s digital pulse has spoken — and Google has now unveiled the 10 Most-Searched Kenyan Personalities of 2025, a list dominated by record-breaking athletes, political heavyweights, controversial figures, and headline-making tragedies.
Released on Thursday, December 4, the report shows that double Olympic champion and world-beating middle-distance queen Faith Kipyegon was the most-searched Kenyan personality of the year.
And Kenyans had every reason to search her.
In September, Kipyegon etched her name deeper into history after storming to her fourth World 1,500m title at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo — a feat that sent patriotic waves across the country and skyrocketed her global stardom.
Three members of the Odinga family made it to the list, sparking chatter about the political dynasty’s enduring influence.
Winnie Odinga, EALA legislator, ranked second amid her fiery political engagements and frequent public appearances.
Oburu Odinga, veteran ODM leader and political kingpin, took third place, buoyed by renewed political relevance ahead of 2027.
Ruth Odinga also earned a spot, continuing the Odinga household’s digital dominance.
The year also saw Kenyans turn to Google to make sense of shocking news and unfolding scandals.
Edward Kwach, the beloved radio veteran who passed away, ranked fifth as fans sought details about his life and legacy.
James Orengo, Siaya Senator and political titan, maintained his online traction with his trademark courtroom and Senate battles.
Rosemary Odinga returned to the spotlight following her gradual re-emergence into public life.
Two of the most dramatic stories of the year involved:
Margaret Nduta, the woman sentenced to death in Vietnam after being found with over 2kg of illegal drugs. Her sentence was later reduced to life imprisonment, triggering massive public debate and fueling search spikes throughout the year.
Deputy Inspector General Eliud Lagat, who was thrust into controversy after being linked to the suspicious death of Albert Ojwang in police custody. Lagat briefly stepped aside before being cleared by IPOA.
Former Public Service CS Justin Muturi capped the top 10. His dramatic fallout with President Ruto — which saw him fired on March 26 — sparked intense online curiosity as Kenyans tracked every twist, from his criticism of government excesses to his political future.
Google also released the most-searched deaths in 2025, with the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga topping the list. International footballer Diogo Jota, US conservative commentator Charlie Kirk, Pope Francis, Wafula Chebukati, Ngũgĩ wa Thiong’o, Hulk Hogan, Albert Ojwang, Kimani Mbugua and lawyer Kyalo Mbobu also dominated this category.
