Kenya’s political fraternity is in mourning following the sudden death of nominated Member of Parliament Denar Joseph Hamisi, who passed away early Saturday morning at the age of 56.
National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula confirmed the news in an official communique, describing the MP’s death as a profound loss to Parliament and the country.
“It is with profound sorrow that I notify the House and the entire Parliamentary fraternity of the untimely demise of the late Hon. Denar Joseph Hamisi, MP, who passed on today, Saturday, 6th December 2025 at about 7:00 am,” Wetang’ula announced.
Hamisi is reported to have succumbed after a brief bout of an unknown illness.
The late Hamisi, a native of Mombasa County, was nominated to the National Assembly by the former Amani National Congress (ANC) party under then-party leader and current Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.
Wetang’ula praised him as a humble, diligent, and dependable leader, noting his dedication to both parliamentary work and community service.
Hamisi served on two key committees:
Departmental Committee on Sports & Culture
Select Committee on National Cohesion & Equal Opportunities
“He will be fondly remembered for his humility and steadfast commitment to service to the nation. His passing is a great loss not only to the House but also to the nation,” Wetang’ula added.
The National Assembly has established a joint committee to coordinate Hamisi’s funeral arrangements in partnership with the family.
The parliamentary team will be led by Kilifi North MP Owen Baya, the Deputy Leader of the Majority Party.
Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, who mentored Hamisi during his ANC days, mourned him as a principled and steadfast leader.
“Denar was a diligent, loyal, and resolute leader who consistently stood by his principles. His forthright character and exceptional ability to mobilise and inspire others earned him respect across the political divide,” Mudavadi stated.
He extended condolences to the MP’s family, friends, and colleagues.
News of the MP’s death has triggered an outpouring of tributes from across the political spectrum, with many describing him as a quiet but effective legislator whose work often spoke louder than his profile.
As the country awaits burial details, Parliament has assured the family of full support during the mourning period.
Hamisi leaves behind a legacy of humility, service, and unwavering commitment to public duty.
