Kenya is bracing for another week of mixed weather as the Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) releases its latest seven-day outlook — and while large parts of the country will stay hot, dry, and sunny, several regions should prepare for scattered showers and cooler mornings.
In its update published on Monday, December 8, 2025, the weatherman said rainfall is expected in selective pockets across the Highlands east and west of the Rift Valley, the Coast, parts of the Rift Valley, North-eastern Kenya and sections of the South-eastern lowlands.
Meanwhile, scorching temperatures above 30°C will persist in the Coast, North-eastern, North-western, and parts of Eastern and Rift Valley counties.
Residents in the Highlands west of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Rift Valley should prepare for sunny days followed by possible afternoon and evening showers.
Counties likely to experience the wet spells include:
Nandi
Kakamega
Vihiga
Bungoma
Siaya
Busia
Baringo
Nakuru
Trans-Nzoia
Uasin-Gishu
Elgeyo-Marakwet
West-Pokot
Kisii
Nyamira
Kericho

Narok
In north-western Kenya—notably Turkana and Samburu—conditions will remain largely sunny, with mild night cloudiness.
The Highlands east of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi, are set for cloudy, chilly mornings with light rains possible in a few areas.
Later in the day, conditions will improve to sunny intervals, though localized afternoon and evening showers may still pop up.
Affected counties include:
Nyandarua
Laikipia
Nyeri
Kirinyaga
Murang’a
Kiambu
Meru
Embu
Tharaka-Nithi
The typically hot and dry North-eastern region—covering Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Isiolo—will maintain sunny days and partly cloudy nights, with a chance of morning rains and isolated afternoon showers.
Counties in the South-eastern lowlands, among them Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado, Taita-Taveta and inland Tana River, should expect sunny days with occasional morning, afternoon or evening showers in select places.
The Coast region — Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, Kwale, and coastal parts of Tana River — will experience sunny intervals, but the Met Department warns of possible morning, afternoon, and evening showers in a few areas throughout the week.
