In a powerful blend of festive generosity and high-stakes politics, more than 500 vulnerable families in Uyoma, Rarieda Constituency, on Christmas week received food supplies and mobility aids donated by President William Ruto, reinforcing his government’s grassroots outreach in Nyanza.
The Christmas gifts — including food items and wheelchairs for persons living with disabilities — were distributed at the North Uyoma home of Medical Services Principal Secretary Dr. Ouma Oluga, who represented the Head of State at the event.
Addressing the jubilant beneficiaries, Dr. Oluga urged residents to embrace the spirit of unity and compassion, saying President Ruto’s gesture reflected a government keen on lifting the most vulnerable and leaving no Kenyan behind.
“This season reminds us that communities grow stronger when they stand with the less fortunate. The President’s support is a call for unity, responsibility and shared progress,” Dr. Oluga said.
He further appealed to residents to reciprocate the goodwill by supporting President Ruto’s development-focused administration, noting that social protection and healthcare remain key pillars of the Kenya Kwanza agenda.
ODM Insider Drops Political Bombshell
But beyond the Christmas cheer, the gathering quickly morphed into a political statement of national consequence.
Speaking at the event, businessman and influential political operative Okech Sala, a longtime confidant of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, declared that the ODM leader remains firmly committed to the broad-based government and has signalled support for President Ruto’s re-election bid in 2027.
Sala urged ODM supporters to read the political mood correctly and rally behind the President beyond the current power-sharing arrangement, framing cooperation as a strategic pathway to stability and development.
“The direction has already been set. Those who truly respect Raila Odinga’s vision should support President Ruto and the broad-based government,” Sala said.
Warning Shot at ODM Secretariat
In a fiery twist, Sala took aim at ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, alleging that the party’s administrative wing was being influenced by external forces bent on weakening ODM from within.
He accused Sifuna of undermining the authority of the party’s current leader, Dr. Oburu Oginga, insisting that Oburu — as Raila Odinga’s elder brother and legitimate party leader — deserves full respect and latitude to steer ODM’s future.
Sala claimed that Raila Odinga had previously raised concerns about internal conduct within the party, warning against actions that could fracture ODM at a critical political moment.
The Uyoma gathering, though framed as a charitable Christmas event, is now being widely interpreted as a clear signal of shifting political winds in Nyanza, a region long considered ODM’s stronghold.
As President Ruto deepens his footprint through targeted social support and ODM insiders openly preach cooperation, the lines between charity, loyalty and 2027 succession politics are rapidly blurring.
One thing is clear: Uyoma’s Christmas gifts came wrapped with a powerful political message — and Kenya is paying attention.
