In a significant step toward prioritizing worker safety, Siaya County Government has secured official certification as a registered safe workplace under Kenya’s Occupational Safety and Health Act, 2007. The Directorate of Occupational Safety and Health Services (DOSHS) issued Certificate No. SYA/0035888/26 on February 11, 2026, valid until February 11, 2027.
The certificate confirms that the county’s main administrative premises—located at Siaya Block/001 along Governor’s Road in Alego Sub-County, Siaya Town—meet national standards for occupational health and safety. As the occupier, Siaya County Government is recognized for its commitment to providing a hazard-free environment in the delivery of county public services.
Under Section 44 of the Act, workplace registration is mandatory for all occupiers to ensure compliance with safety regulations, including risk assessments, cleanliness, and employee welfare provisions. The county paid the required fees, including KSh 1,000 for general registration and KSh 500 for the abstract of the Act, demonstrating full adherence to DOSHS guidelines.
This achievement highlights Siaya County’s proactive approach to employee well-being amid growing emphasis on workplace safety across Kenya. DOSHS registration not only shields workers from occupational hazards but also enhances public confidence in county operations, from administrative offices to service delivery points.
While the certificate applies specifically to the registered workplace (and not construction sites, which require separate approvals under related laws), it underscores the county’s dedication to a safer public sector. Residents and employees can now take pride in a government that leads by example in protecting its workforce.
This milestone aligns with national efforts to reduce workplace accidents and promote healthier working conditions. Siaya County sets a positive precedent for other devolved units striving for compliance and excellence in public service.
