But Arsenal’s dead-ball brilliance struck again in the 66th minute. Declan Rice curled in another corner, Robert Sánchez inexplicably ducked, and Jurriën Timber rose unchallenged at the near post to bullet the winner. 2-1. Game over? Not quite.
Three minutes later, Pedro Neto lost the plot. Already booked for dissent, the Portuguese winger lunged cynically at Gabriel Martinelli by the touchline. Second yellow, red card. Chelsea’s seventh dismissal of the season. Game, set, and a mountain to climb.
Down to ten men, the visitors still threatened. David Raya produced a string of heroic saves — tipping away Enzo Fernández’s piledriver, clawing out João Pedro’s header, denying Alejandro Garnacho’s late cross-shot — to keep the lead intact. A stoppage-time Chelsea “equaliser” from Liam Delap was rightly chalked off for offside. The Gunners held firm.
Arsenal have now scored 16 goals from corners this term — a Premier League record pace — and remain unbeaten against Chelsea in 11 meetings. Mikel Arteta’s side, fresh off hammering Tottenham 4-1, look title-ready: gritty, clinical, and lethal from the air.
For Chelsea, the frustration mounts. Impressive in spells, undone yet again by indiscipline and their inability to stop Arsenal’s set-piece storm. They sit three points off the Champions League places, still searching for consistency.
The message from north London is clear: if you can’t handle the corners, you can’t handle the Gunners. Arsenal are flying. The race for the crown just got a whole lot hotter.
