Siaya County has officially set the wheels in motion for a transformative energy future following the convening of the County Energy Planning Technical Committee Inception Meeting, a landmark forum hosted by the Department of Public Works, Roads, Energy and Transport.
The high-level meeting brought together members of the County Energy Planning Technical Committee, key sector stakeholders, and senior officials from the County Government of Siaya, marking the formal launch of the County Energy Planning (CEP) process. The session also served as the official introduction of CEP consultants, who will provide end-to-end technical support in partnership with Practical Action, a leading development organisation in sustainable energy solutions.
At the heart of the discussions was the need to align all stakeholders on the objectives, scope and methodology for developing three critical policy instruments: the County Energy Plan, the County Energy Investment Prospectus, and the County Energy Policy. Together, these frameworks are expected to guide Siaya’s transition towards affordable, reliable and sustainable energy systems that can unlock economic growth and improve service delivery.
Participants received comprehensive briefings on their roles and responsibilities, alongside clear timelines, milestones and expected outcomes of the planning process. Emphasis was placed on evidence-based planning, private sector participation, and inclusive energy solutions that respond to the county’s unique development needs.
The inception meeting emerged as a vital coordination platform, fostering collaboration, shared ownership and a common vision among all actors involved. County officials underscored that effective energy planning will be instrumental in powering industrialisation, supporting small and medium enterprises, enhancing healthcare and education services, and accelerating Siaya’s overall socio-economic development.
With the CEP process now officially underway, Siaya County has taken a decisive step towards positioning energy as a key enabler of growth, investment and sustainable development—signalling a bold commitment to a greener, more resilient future.
