In one of the most explosive political interviews of the year, Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has detonated a political earthquake, openly signalling a grand alliance with Rigathi Gachagua, Kalonzo Musyoka and the full United Opposition to deliver a crushing, five-million-vote defeat to President William Ruto in 2027.
Appearing on NTV’s Fixing The Nation, the embattled ODM Secretary-General and face of the explosive Linda Mwananchi movement left no doubt: the anti-Ruto forces must consolidate now – or watch Ruto stroll back to State House.
“We need an overwhelming repudiation of William Ruto and everything that he stands for,” Sifuna declared. “We must beat William Ruto by at least five million votes. Just so Kenyans demonstrate that we reject this sort of thing… if you ever build a government that does not listen to the people, we will send you home.”
He went further, assuring voters his camp will not be the weak link:
“I want to assure everyone who believes that our country cannot withstand another five-year term of William Ruto, we will not be the problem. I cannot countenance waking up and hearing William Ruto has won the election by one hundred thousand or two hundred thousand votes like he did last time.”
On working with the broader opposition, Sifuna was crystal clear:
“Let nobody think that we think it is an easy thing… we are up against a very wild politician – you must give him his flowers, he knows his turf. All of us must be able to agree and say this is the formula that will take this gentleman home.”
But Sifuna didn’t stop at alliance talk. He rewrote the entire conversation about what Kenyans actually need from their leaders – a message that instantly strengthens any coalition with Gachagua, Kalonzo and the United Opposition.
“Don’t ask me to promise roads or compete with Kasongo on that,” he fired. “Let me promise you I will not kill your children for expressing themselves.”
In raw, powerful strokes, Sifuna vowed to end police brutality, protect lives, and build a Kenya based on merit instead of fear or connections. He diagnosed the country’s deepest crisis as a “software problem” – the exact issue he has warned about for years.
“Infrastructure matters,” he acknowledged, “but nothing matters more than the safety and dignity of citizens.”
“This is a different conversation about leadership,” Sifuna stressed – one that puts people first and sends a chilling signal to the current regime.
The timing could not be more devastating for Ruto. Sifuna’s overture directly embraces the United Opposition (now styled as the United Alternative Government), which already includes former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua (DCP), Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Fred Matiang’i, Martha Karua, Eugene Wamalwa, Justin Muturi and others.
With Linda Mwananchi’s digital census now quantifying its massive grassroots army, the emerging grand alliance brings together Mt Kenya muscle, Kamba numbers, youthful urban energy and a compelling new governance narrative.
Sifuna is already preparing the ground: “We are setting a mechanism. We want to conduct our census of these Sifunas. How many are we actually? Once we know how many we are, we will take certain steps that will be in the right direction.”
The message is unmistakable: the days of a fragmented opposition handing Ruto narrow victories are over.
Ruto now faces the nightmare scenario he tried to prevent – a unified, fired-up, people-centred grand coalition ready to send him packing in a landslide.
Kenya 2027 just got a whole lot hotter.
