Shock and grief have gripped Tuum Location in Samburu North Sub-County after police arrested a 30-year-old man in connection with the brutal killing of his 16-year-old nephew in a chilling domestic incident.
Law enforcement officers from Baragoi Police Station have taken into custody Daniel Tanapua, who is the prime suspect in the killing of Alpha Lemoosa, a minor whose life was cut short under harrowing circumstances.
According to preliminary police reports, the tragedy unfolded shortly after the uncle and nephew shared an evening meal. What reportedly began as a domestic disagreement quickly escalated into a violent confrontation, ending in the teenager’s death.
When officers responded to the scene, they found Alpha’s body lying lifeless in a pool of blood. A blood-stained Somali sword, believed to be the murder weapon, was recovered at the scene, deepening the horror of the incident. The body was later transported to Baragoi Sub-County Hospital Mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a post-mortem examination.
Police immediately launched a swift and coordinated manhunt, tracking the suspect through the rugged terrain of Samburu North. The operation bore fruit when Tanapua was arrested at a hideout, where officers allegedly found him attempting to wash blood-stained clothes in what investigators believe was an effort to destroy crucial evidence.
The suspect is currently being held in police custody as detectives finalize investigations ahead of his arraignment in court.
The incident has sparked outrage and sorrow among residents, reigniting concerns over rising cases of domestic violence and violent crime in rural communities. Authorities have urged the public to resolve disputes peacefully and to report early signs of conflict before they spiral into tragedy.
Police have also called on members of the public to assist law enforcement by sharing information anonymously.
