The County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Lands, Physical Planning, Housing, and Urban Development, Mr. Maurice Mc’Orege, participated and witnessed election of the new Siaya Municipal Board officials.
The election was conducted by Director of Governance Mr. George Okello with Dr. Winnie Oyugi being elected as Chairperson, and Mr. Boniface Onyango as Vice Chairperson.
In their acceptance speeches, the duo pledged to collaborate closely to drive development within Siaya Municipality. They committed to adhering to the Siaya County Physical and Land Use Development Plan, which provides a framework for the efficient, productive, and sustainable use of land.
The Siaya Municipality Manager, Madam Linet Oyola, urged the newly elected board members to work in unison. She assured them that schedules would be provided to guide their day-to-day operations, facilitating efficient management as required under the Urban Areas and Cities Act, 2019, which designates the municipal manager as the administrative head responsible for implementing board decisions.

On his part, the CECM encouraged the new board to execute their duties with diligence and firmness at all times. He emphasized the importance of embracing dialogue to ensure that their work aligns with the Nyalore Manifesto, the county’s development blueprint.
Today’s election aligns with the Urban Areas and Cities Act, 2019, which mandates the establishment of municipal boards to manage urban areas under county oversight, ensuring effective governance and service delivery.
