The County Government of Siaya, through the Department of Agriculture, is running its second Long Rains Campaign.
The initiative aims to enhance agricultural productivity by providing advisory services, subsidized farm inputs, and strengthening stakeholder partnerships.
Farmers can now access a variety of subsidized seeds beyond maize, including sorghum and green grams:
Maize (2kg) – Ksh 400

Sorghum (2kg) – Ksh 200
Green grams (2kg) – Ksh 200
With subsidized fertilizer available at Ksh 600 per 10kg bag.
The program is undertaken in collaboration with the National Government which has facilitated the provision of sunflower and cotton seeds.
This move aims to promote diversification and agribusiness growth in different sectors.
To ensure more land is cultivated, the county has introduced tractor hire services at a subsidized rate of Ksh 3,000 per acre.
The County is prioritizing swift distribution, ensuring that all farm inputs reach farmers by the end of this week.
The distribution exercise which began today is ongoing across all 30 wards, reaching farmers at designated centers.
Meanwhile 216 agri-preneurs have been recruited and engaged to provide expert guidance to farmers.
This mentorship initiative is expected to improve farm productivity, ensuring food security and revenue generation.
The move by the Nyalore administration also complements County extension services as we gear towards the Food and Agriculture Organization recommended officer to farmer ratio of 1:400.
With timely input distribution, mechanized plowing, and farmer advisory services, Siaya County anticipates a bumper harvest this season.
The campaign is set to enhance food security and empower farmers economically.
