Siaya County was on Saturday among several other counties across Kenya that received an Isuzu D-Max double-cab pick-up from the National government meant for disease surveillance.
President Dr. William Samoei Ruto presided in the handing over ceremony that all governors were invited to.
“We are strengthening public health systems and grassroots disease surveillance, and enhancing emergency response through strategic investments and collaboration,” said President Ruto.
The deployment of digitised, integrated surveillance systems across all the 47 counties, alongside targeted training, has boosted national vigilance by streamlining detection at both health facility and community levels.

The president also used the occasion to urge Kenyans to register for the social health program SHA.
“I once again appeal to all Kenyans to register with the Social Health Authority as we advance the implementation of Universal Health Coverage.”
This acquisition aligns with Governor Orengo’s 9-Point Agenda, which prioritizes strengthening healthcare provision through enhanced infrastructure and rapid response capabilities. The vehicle will bolster Siaya’s disease surveillance efforts, ensuring timely interventions and advancing the county’s commitment to accessible, high-quality healthcare for all residents.
Present at the State House handing over ceremony was Siaya County Secretary Joseph Ogutu who represented Governor James Aggrey Bob Orengo and CECM Health Dr. Martin K’Onyango.
In other news, on Thursday last week First daughter, Charlene Ruto paid a courtesy call to County Government of Siaya headquarters.
The First Daughter was received by the County Secretary, Mr. Joseph Ogutu, and other senior county officials.
Her two-day visit in Siaya was slated to cover a call at Ambrose Adeya Adongo Secondary School in South East Alego Ward and another to the newly upgraded Siaya National Polytechnic on Friday.
She would then take part in a youth summit which was the focal point of her Siaya visit.
The summit aims to address critical topics, including climate change, mental and reproductive health awareness, digital literacy, civic education, student welfare, tree planting, blood donation initiatives and youths in agriculture engagement forums.
She was accompanied by Mr. Derrick Oginga, the Founder and Secretary-General of the Siaya County University Students Association, representatives from the SMACHS Foundation and Young People’s Network International, both under her patronage.
