We Finally Have A Party — Gachagua Says During Launch of DCP
Spread the love

An exuberant  Geoffrey Rigathi Gachagua on Thursday May 15, 2025 exclaimed in awe and confidence we finally have a party as he presided on the launch of Kenya’s latest political establishment the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP).

“We finally have a political party where every Kenyan is treated equally,” said Gachagua.

The former Deputy President in the presence of former Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala, now DCP Deputy Party Leader, and a notable absence of senior opposition figureheads, unveiled the party manifesto at the headquarters located along Musa Gitau Road in the leafy Lavington area of Nairobi.

DCP Party slogan is the catchy Swahili phrase  Skiza Wakenya.

The party colours are neon green and white — a symbol, Gachagua claims, of renewal, transparency, and inclusivity.

“I made a promise to you, that in the month of May I would unveil a new political party whose philosophy resonates with you. As you all know, I’m a truthful and honest man; I keep my promises.

“We finally have a political party that belongs to all of us; where every Kenyan is treated equally,” he said at the launch.

Gachagua further stated that the party will be people-centric with a focus on genuine and sustained engagement between citizens and leaders.

“As a party we believe every Kenyan should be listened to by their leaders. This listening, must not just be listening for the sake of it; it must be deliberate, planned, have a purpose and it must be sustainable. At no given time in our leadership shall Kenyans be left behind or remain unheard.”

Prominent leaders from Kenya’s opposition gave the lavish event a wide berth.

The event was attended by former Agriculture CS Mithika Linturi, former Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala, former KICC Board Chairperson Irungu Nyakera, Kiambu Senator Karungo wa Thang’wa, Nyandarua Senator John Methu, Kajiado North MP Onesmus Ngogoyo, and Kiringagah Woman Representative Jane Maina.

Also present were a number of Nairobi and legislators from Central Kenya including Laikipia Woman Rep Cate Waruguru, former Limuru MP Peter Mwathi, Kipipiri MP Wanjiku Muhia, Starehe MP Amos Mwago, Embakasi Central MP Benjamin Gathiru, Murang’a Senator Joe Nyutu, Juja MP George Koimburi, former Starehe MP Maina Kamanda and Embakasi North MP Gakuya Mwangi.

The absence of other party leaders in the opposition now attests to an even greater fragmentation of Kenya’s opposition.

Former powerful Interior Cabinet Minister Fred Okeng’o Matiang’i has indicated that he will be in the presidential ballot come 2027. With the entry of Gachagua and other pretenders such as Peter Salasya the race is becoming crowded by the day and this could be to the advantage of the incumbent office holder President Dr. William Samoei Ruto.

With a proliferation of members from Central Kenya it remains to be seen whether the new party will make inroads into the rest of the country.

Gachagua who has been profiling himself as Mr. Clean also has to shed-off the image of a wheeler-dealer being closely associated with stolen billions meant for hospital theatre equipment in Kiringagah and disinheriting his in-laws.

Meanwhile, a man who fired live bullets within the compound where the new party was being launched has been described as an undercover police officer.

The sound of gunfire sent panic through the crowd, with many dropping to the ground or rushing toward the exits. However security details regained control of the situation and calm was returned.

It is yet-to-be-established whether the theatrics were stage managed or there’s a real threat facing Geoffrey Rigathi Gachagua.
