In an interview at his residence conducted by media personality Obina, former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua has admitted that although he was optimistic about his new party DCP making inroads throughout Kenya, Nyanza would be a hard nut to crack.
Gachagua said Raila is an institution and he straddles the politics of the region with a tight grip.
The former deputy president alleged that his former boss had become inordinately rich in the past two years, placing his wealth at between two to three trillion in Kenya currency.
Asked whether rumours that he was physically assaulted by the president’s right-hand man are true, Gachagua replied:

“Am Mama’s boy. And my mother taught me to stand up for what I believe in. Who would have the audacity to slap me. If they slap, I slap back, if they bang the table I bang it too. That is me, always standing for what I believe in”
The former DPs admission that Nyanza might be out of bounds for political experimentation is bourne out with the fact that for the past three decades the politics of the region have revolved around the personality of Raila.
Raila’s latest bromance with the State has however sparked much criticism with vocal voices in the region arguing that working with the KK administration is sanitizing it’s evils.
A number of politicians from the region who are obvious beneficiaries of State largesse have been on a PR upbeat selling a narrative called lobbying the government for projects.
Nonetheless, most of the projects begun by President Ruto including the Wadh-goye bridge and KES 200 million meant to complete the construction of the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Stadium in Siaya are yet to be facilitated.
Curiously those supportive of CS Wandayi in the Energy docket appear ignorant that electricity is a commodity that is only disbursed to deserving areas after careful mapping. They have failed to convince Siaya voters that by virtue of heading a parliamentary committee dealing with the Budget, MP Atandi becomes significant in the way Treasury plans or runs the National Budget.
While the toing-and-froing goes on, Siaya Governor James Aggrey Bob Orengo has been used as a scapegoat to cover the ineptitude of those appointed to national office.
The averagely youthful Siaya voter is however seeing through the facade and calls for another term for Orengo are on the increase day by day.
