Cooperatives and MSME Development Cabinet Secretary Wycliffe Ambetsa Oparanya today held a strategic symposium on coffee at the Siaya National Polytechnic.
Oparanya emphasized that coffee is key to transforming rural livelihoods and accelerating economic growth.
The CS reiterated the importance of farmers utilizing the Coffee Cherry Advance Revolving Fund (CCARF) which provides essential financial support at harvest time. By alleviating cash flow constraints, the Fund enables farmers to reinvest in their farms and improve productivity.
Coffee is the second most-traded commodity globally, after crude oil, with Kenya strategically located within the world’s coffee belt.

Despite this, the country produces only a fraction of its potential. Reviving coffee production in Siaya and other counties will significantly increase household incomes, create jobs, and boost Kenya’s foreign exchange earnings.
Kenya’s coffee is globally renowned for its quality. With adequate support, access to inputs, agronomy training, and markets, our farmers can reclaim their position on the world stage.

Siaya County top officials present included County Secretary Mr. Joseph Ogutu, CECMs Mr. Sylvester K’Okoth (Agriculture) and Mrs. Grace Agola (Trade), Chief Officer Madam Elizabeth Adongo, Chief Officer for Governance, Administration, and ICT Hon. Walter Okelo, Director of Cooperatives Mr. Samuel Wambiya, and other staff members.
Oparanya was accompanied by senior Ministry officials, including MPs Major John Waluke (Sirisia), Hon. Raphael Wanjala (Budalangi), and farming enthusiast former Alego Usonga MP Sammy Weya.
