Geoffrey Rigathi Gachagua’s Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) has moved house barely days after setting up headquarters at Riara Center on Riara Road to premises on Musa Gitau Road off Waiyaki Way.
The reason behind the move is yet-to-be-established with sources claiming this is just one visible aspect of the internal confusion surrounding the new party.
Yesterday in Machakos DCP held what may be considered a mammoth rally but it was obvious that the organization came from Kalonzo Musyoka’s Wiper Party and Justin Muturi’s Democratic Party.
Does that mean that the new DCP Party does not have grassroots following? Far from it. Youth, particularly a section of youth from Mount Kenya allied to Gen Z have identified with the DCP as the lesser of two evils – the other being a political wing run by the Deputy President Kithure Kindiki which specializes in splashing money, whose source is still in question.
The youth have a plan. They say Gachagua can be used to remove president Ruto then they’ll dump him somewhere along the way. Whether this is wishful thinking or not, the political climate in Mount Kenya is increasingly getting confused.
For the first time the Kikuyu nation do not have a kingpin figure and pretenders to the throne such as Gachagua, Linturi and Justin Muturi have only managed to sway a nominal amount of voters to their respective camps.
Even with a Luhya as Deputy Party Leader, DCP Party has failed to gain traction anywhere else outside Gema regions.
A meeting scheduled today at Malava town in western Kenya attracted curious crowds but there was no fanatical support as Cleophas Malala used to marshal for UDA Party.
Gachagua now claims the state is out to frustrate him, which may be true, given the abandon with which he conducts himself as a politician.
The DCP Party was to have it’s official launch on June 4 at the Kasarani indoor arena but authorities refused to grant Gachagua permits.
His claims of persecution by the state are marred by the Koimburi abduction case which authorities are proving to have been stage-managed.
The embattled Gachagua has been disowned by virtually all significant political players in the mountain region and now he seeks allies with Muturi, Musyoka and Eugene Wamalwa. It is doubtful that the more senior politician Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka who is known for throwing in the opposition towel everytime the ballot day approaches will play second fiddle to Gachagua.
It’s also unlikely that given their temperaments Eugene Wamalwa and Cleophas Malala can stick in a coalition without supremacy wars.
This is one card that is as unpredictable as it’s flag-bearer. For now the Wantam, and Notam chants are everywhere on social media.
Meanwhile, on the ground Dr. William Samoei Ruto together with Raila Amollo Odinga are solidifying an alliance that may prove too formidable to beat, if Raila does not play Ruto.
