Kenya’s Harambee Stars have carved their name into African football history books after storming into the quarterfinals of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) in their very first appearance at the tournament.
The Stars sealed progression with a game to spare following a dream run in Group A — a campaign marked by grit, tactical discipline, and moments of pure football artistry.
Kenya kicked off their fairy-tale debut with a hard-earned 1–0 victory over continental giants DR Congo, thanks to a late winner that sent thousands of travelling fans into wild celebration. They followed it up with a tense 1–1 draw against Angola, showing resilience after falling behind early.
The defining moment, however, came in their third outing — a high-stakes clash against reigning champions Morocco. In a performance that stunned pundits and silenced the Atlas Lions’ supporters, Kenya battled to a 1–0 triumph, climbing to the summit of the group with seven points.

Qualification was mathematically confirmed hours later when Group B results fell Kenya’s way: Morocco edged Zambia 2–1 while DR Congo narrowly defeated Angola. The tie-break rules — favouring Kenya’s superior head-to-head record — ensured no other team could catch them.
With Morocco and DR Congo both stuck at six points and Angola and Zambia officially out, the Harambee Stars now march into Sunday’s final group match against Zambia (August 17) with their confidence sky-high.
Coach [Insert name] hailed the qualification as “a proud moment for the nation,” promising that Kenya would “fight for every ball” to keep their unbeaten streak alive and secure top spot.
The achievement has ignited celebrations across the country, from the streets of Nairobi to the villages of Turkana, with fans daring to dream that the fairy tale could yet have more glorious chapters.
The Harambee Stars now have a chance to go where no Kenyan side has gone before — deep into the knockout stages of a major continental tournament.
