President William Ruto has revoked the appointment of Dr. Samier Muravvej as the non-executive chairperson of the National Syndemic Diseases Control Council (NSDCC) barely two months after he was tapped for the role.
In a Gazette Notice published on Friday, September 6, the Head of State declared Muravvej’s exit from the health body with immediate effect.
“I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, revoke the appointment of— SAMIER MURAVVEJ (DR.),” the notice read.
But in what appears to be a strategic reshuffle rather than a dismissal, Ruto reassigned Muravvej to head another agency. The notice revealed that he will now serve as the non-executive chairperson of the Kenya Fisheries Service for a three-year term effective September 5, 2025.

The president cited his powers under the Fisheries Management and Development Act in making the appointment.
Part of Wider Shake-Up
The changes come just months after the administration carried out sweeping leadership appointments across the health sector.
On July 25, Ruto had placed Muravvej at the helm of NSDCC and also named new leadership at other public health institutions:
Fredrick Namenya Were – Chairperson, Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (three-year term).
Paul Ndung’u Kariuki – Non-Executive Chairperson, Kenya National Public Health Institute (three-year term).
Muravvej, a seasoned administrator, previously served as the board chair of Kenyatta National Hospital.
The reshuffle underscores the president’s push to realign leadership in key state corporations, with analysts noting that the move could be aimed at balancing influence across the health and blue economy sectors.
