Echoes of Evidence: SFA Foundation Podcast for Science Literacy and Policy Influence
Spread the love

The Science for Africa Foundation (SFA Foundation) and SemaBox Africa have partnered to launch Echoes of Evidence, a new podcast bringing evidence-based science knowledge into everyday public spaces. Our vision is to cultivate a culture of curiosity, engagement, and trust in science across Africa.

Hosted by a scientist and science communicator cum Public Health specialist, the bi-weekly show unpacks complex scientific concepts and developments into accessible, relatable and candid conversations featuring African science leaders, innovators, experts and policy/decision makers.

Episodes will humanise African scientists, highlight African-led science innovations, discuss broad science ecosystems issues and connect Africa’s research to global science discourse.

Available on YouTube,
Spotify,
Apple
Podcasts, and Wazo
Podcasts, Echoes of Evidence is where science meets everyday life!

“Science is inseparable from geopolitics and diplomacy. From climate change to health and technology, the ability of nations to cooperate, negotiate, and share evidence determines whether societies thrive or falter. Platforms like
Echoes of Evidence bring these realities closer to the public by showing how science is not just about discoveries in the lab, but also about shaping alliances, strengthening trust, and influencing global policy. At SFA Foundation, we see science communication
as a powerful tool of diplomacy, one that ensures Africa’s perspectives, knowledge, and innovations are part of global conversations and decision-making.”
said Dr Tom Kariuki (PhD), Chief Executive Officer, SFA Foundation.

Echoes of Evidence is poised to grow into a trusted Pan-African science communication platform that not only informs but also connects. By embracing conversational storytelling, multilingual access, and diverse African perspectives, the podcast will
extend its reach to wider audiences, from everyday citizens to policymakers, ensuring that science remains relevant to Africa’s future.

“At the Science for Africa Foundation, we invest in research that shapes policy, builds resilience, and inspires the next generation. This podcast highlights the science, diplomacy, and collaboration behind African-led solutions, amplifying African leadership and voices that are transforming health, climate, agriculture, and technology across the continent and beyond,”added Dr Evelyn Gitau, Chief Scientific Officer, SFA Foundation and co-host of the podcast.

Lillian Mutengu, Senior Programme Manager, Science for Africa Foundation, and co-host of the podcast, highlights the importance of strengthening public understanding and trust in science through inclusive communication: “We live in times of unprecedented
scientific progress, where areas of science seem to be advancing far ahead of public awareness and understanding yet discussions of new discoveries, technologies, or concerns about science take place in a socio-political context. This poses risk for public confusion and concern. Echoes of Evidence seeks to rebuild public trust in science and promote science literacy, enabling public discourse on health, climate, agricultural research, and other emerging issues shaping the future of science and
innovation.”

Looking Ahead

Ultimately, Echoes of Evidence is more than a podcast – it is an instrument of science diplomacy and a pathway to strengthening Africa’s voice in global conversations. By unpacking not only the outcomes of research, but also the processes, methods, and
rigor behind scientific discovery, the podcast invites the public to see science as transparent, trustworthy, and participatory.

This deeper understanding empowers citizens to engage meaningfully, fosters evidence-based dialogue between researchers and policymakers, and ensures that African-led science contributes to shaping solutions at home and abroad.

We invite scientists, policymakers,
and everyday citizens to tune in, share perspectives, and be part of building a future where science is not distant or abstract, but a trusted ally in Africa’s development journey.
