Nairobi, Kenya – President William Ruto departed this evening for Doha, Qatar, marking the beginning of a crucial trip aimed at strengthening economic partnerships, attracting investment, and participating in the UN Second World Summit for Social Development (WSSD2). The summit, which will focus on key global challenges, including poverty reduction, decent work, and social inclusion, is expected to provide a vital platform for international cooperation.
During his visit to Qatar, President Ruto is scheduled to conclude significant investment agreements aimed at modernizing Kenya’s infrastructure and advancing key energy and transport projects. He is also slated to hold discussions with prominent world leaders, including His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of Qatar, to foster deeper collaboration in trade, investment, and strategic development initiatives.
Building on these engagements, the President plans to advance expanded Qatari investment and strategic partnerships, particularly in the vital areas of agriculture, food security, and climate-smart farming. The agenda also includes discussions around renewable energy, green hydrogen, healthcare, tourism, transport, and logistics, with the aim of broadening public-private partnerships. The President will also engage with Qatari business leaders to explore potential collaborations.
Recognizing the importance of youth employment and diaspora contribution, President Ruto will focus on expanding the Kenya-Qatari Bilateral Labour Agreement. The expansion aims to include more professional and technical roles, alongside enhanced skills-training programs aligned with the needs of Qatar’s labour market. This initiative is designed to create new avenues for young Kenyans and support those already working in Qatar, fostering a mutually beneficial relationship.

Furthermore, at the UN summit, President Ruto will deliver critical statements on behalf of Kenya and the Africa Group. These statements will advocate for fair global financial systems, universal access to essential services, strengthened multilateral cooperation, and reforms aimed at enhancing African representation within global organizations.
The President’s delegation anticipates a productive and impactful visit, underlining Kenya’s commitment to strengthening international ties, fostering economic growth, and contributing to global efforts towards sustainable development.
