Siaya County is roaring into the national spotlight as it prepares to host the 12th edition of the Kenya Inter-County Sports and Cultural Association (KICOSCA) Games from November 22–28, 2025 — an event expected to ignite sporting excitement, boost cultural pride and unleash unprecedented business opportunities across the region.
Under the strategic stewardship of Governor James Orengo, the County Government of Siaya has rolled out top-tier preparations, confident that the games will not only elevate Siaya’s sporting profile but also inject fresh energy into the county’s growing economy.
Siaya clinched the hosting rights after a spirited, diplomatic and well-coordinated lobbying effort earlier this year. The push was led by Governor Orengo and a formidable team including:
Sports & Tourism CEC: Anjeline Oduor

Chief Officer: Judith Oyugi
Sports Director: Dr. Sanmac Okoth
Deputy Director & National NTC Chair: John Angawa
NTC Member: Dr. Kennedy Oreyo
Their teamwork paid off — and now Siaya is ready to deliver one of the most memorable KICOSCA events in recent years.
All 47 county governments will participate in a range of sporting and cultural competitions, including:
Football
Volleyball
Netball
Handball
Athletics
Scrabble
Tug of war
Cultural & music competitions
Last year’s games in Kakamega saw Siaya shine in men’s and women’s scrabble, women’s handball, and hammer throw, with strong finishes in other categories. This year, expectations are even higher.
The heart of the 2025 games will be the iconic Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Stadium — a modern, state-of-the-art facility boasting:
Seating capacity of 10,000–15,000
Cantilever roofing for uninterrupted viewlines
Expanded terraces
VIP pavilion
Ample parking
Modern sanitation blocks

Other venues include KMTC, Siaya National Polytechnic, Kirindo, Liganwa, Mulaha, Awelo, Ambrose Adeya Adongo Hall, and Holy Cross Church Hall for music and cultural performances.
Games will run daily from 7:30 a.m. until late evening throughout the competition week.
Team Siaya exudes confidence — especially the women’s handball team, which is determined to defend its title.
“A win is a must. This trophy is already ours,”
declared a spirited Pauline Awino Owegi, team leader of the women’s handball squad.
Siaya also expects strong performances in scrabble, hammer throw, and several athletics events, thanks to intense training and solid logistical support from the county.
Siaya’s business community is gearing up for a bumper week as thousands of visitors, athletes, officials and spectators pour into the county.
Beneficiaries will include:
Hotels & lodges
Restaurants & supermarkets
Retail shops
Jua kali artisans
Boda boda operators
Matatu and public transport providers
Local hospitals and clinics
Event suppliers & vendors

The influx is expected to significantly raise local revenue, supporting the County Integrated Development Plan (CIDP) and boosting Siaya’s growth indices.
Before the official games kick off, the Siaya Choir will showcase their polished vocals at Ramba Secondary School, an event Governor Orengo is expected to attend.
The official opening ceremony will take place on Monday, November 22, 2025, marking the beginning of a vibrant week of sports and cultural celebration.
Beyond medals, the KICOSCA Games aim to:
Showcase county staff sporting talents
Promote national unity & cultural exchange
Build teamwork and networking across counties
Boost domestic tourism
Grow regional economies
Nurture potential athletes for national and international championships
This year, Siaya stands ready — not just to host, but to shine.
