The long wait is finally over for thousands of anxious parents and learners.
The Ministry of Education has officially released the Grade 10 senior school placements for candidates who sat the 2025 Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA), bringing days of uncertainty to an end after earlier technical hitches disrupted access to results.
By Friday evening, learners transitioning to senior secondary school were able to view their placement details, just as the ministry had promised the exercise would conclude by December 19.
How to Check Grade 10 Placement Results
Students can now confirm their senior school placements through two official channels:
SMS: Send your KNEC assessment number to 22263
Online: Log in to the Kenya Education Management Information System (KEMIS) portal via https://selection.education.go.ke/
The ministry confirmed that the automated placement system is now fully operational, following days of technical delays that had left many parents frustrated after receiving repeated “placement in progress” messages.

CS Ogamba Explains Placement Formula
Speaking during the release of the 2025 KJSEA results last week, Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba clarified how learners were placed into senior schools and pathways under the Competency-Based Education (CBE) framework.
According to the ministry, placement is based on a weighted Grade 9 score, calculated as follows:
20% from the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA)
20% from School-Based Assessments (SBAs) conducted in Grades 7 and 8
60% from the Grade 9 summative assessment
CS Ogamba emphasized that the system considers both academic performance and learners’ selected senior school pathways, ensuring alignment with individual strengths and career interests.
The announcement comes after mounting concern from parents and students who struggled to access placement information between December 15 and 19, despite assurances that the process would run smoothly.
Since Monday, many parents attempting to check placements encountered a holding message indicating that Grade 10 placements were still being processed, fueling anxiety across the country.
In a reassuring update, Principal Secretary for Basic Education Julius Bitok confirmed that learners who feel they were placed in the wrong school or pathway will have an opportunity to seek redress.
“Any student dissatisfied with their placement will be allowed to apply for a revision within two weeks,” PS Bitok said.
The ministry reiterated that the placement process is fully automated, a move aimed at enhancing fairness, transparency, and efficiency as learners prepare to report to senior secondary schools in the second week of January.
Meanwhile, individual KJSEA results remain accessible through the KNEC portal (kjsea.knec.ac.ke) by entering the learner’s assessment number and registered name.
As the dust settles, relief has replaced anxiety in many households—marking a major milestone in Kenya’s transition to the senior phase of the Competency-Based Education system.
