As 2025 comes to an end, Hon. Scholastica Masidis Madowo, MCA for South East Alego Ward, has issued her Christmas and New Year message to residents—one that reflects not only on a demanding year, but also on what has widely been viewed as a fruitful and nationally impactful term in county legislation.
In her festive message, Hon. Madowo extended warm wishes of a Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year 2026 to families across South East Alego, noting that the outgoing year carried both moments of sorrow and significant achievement.
She recalled that at the national level, Kenya was shaken by the death of Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga, the ODM Party leader, an event that led to the postponement of key regional gatherings including the Siaya International Trade and Investment Conference (SITICO) and the “Sigand Nyinam” Conference, which celebrates and promotes women’s leadership in the Lake Victoria region.
Against this backdrop, Hon. Madowo said 2025 nonetheless marked a defining chapter in her leadership, describing it as a year in which service at the county level resonated far beyond Siaya. As a county legislator, she captured national attention after sponsoring and successfully steering through the first-ever Widows Protection Bill in Kenya. The landmark law outlaws forced and retrogressive cultural practices against widows and establishes a fund for their economic empowerment—earning her recognition across the country and positioning her as a leading voice on social justice and women’s rights.
Her legislative work also elevated her public profile, with the MCA becoming a regular feature on radio and television talk shows, where she articulated grassroots perspectives on governance, lawmaking and social protection. The frequent media invitations, she noted, helped amplify the voice of South East Alego at the national conversation table.
At the ward level, Hon. Madowo highlighted tangible development gains, including roads, bridges and ECD classrooms, alongside flagship projects such as the Ng’iya Modern Livestock Market, the Sirembe and Rambo water projects in Randago and Kogelo, and the rehabilitation of Rabuor Dam in Nyajuok—initiatives that have directly improved livelihoods.
She also reflected on people-centred programmes rolled out during the year: the ward’s first judiciary outreach clinic led by the Presiding Judge of the Siaya Law Courts, community dialogues across all 11 sub-locations, youth life and digital skills training, Huduma Mashinani services for IDs and birth certificates, motor vehicle driving training for 40 youth, and free medical camps at Kogelo and Ting’wang’i health centres. Ongoing last-mile electricity connections, implemented in collaboration with the area MP, were also cited as a major boost for households.
As she struck a festive tone, the MCA did not shy away from challenges, acknowledging the crop failure linked to climate change that has affected many farmers. She revealed that she has appealed for relief food and subsidised farm inputs, while calling for expert-backed climate adaptation strategies going forward.
Looking to 2026, Hon. Madowo expressed optimism, announcing that several projects in the 2025/2026 financial year will be implemented, including the KSh 80 million Model ECD Complex, a phased, multi-year project she welcomed to South East Alego with appreciation to county leadership.
With her five-year term nearing its end, the MCA urged unity and continued partnership with residents, reaffirming that her office in Bar Ogong’o remains open to the public.
As South East Alego celebrates Christmas and ushers in the New Year, Hon. Scholastica Masidis Madowo’s message is both festive and firm: gratitude for the journey, pride in a year of national impact, and resolve to finish her term strong in service to the people.
