The County Government of Siaya led by Governor James Orengo has today presided over the groundbreaking ceremony for a new maternity complex at the Sigomere Level 4 Hospital.
The ultra-modern health facility once completed will comprise theatre, post-natal and new born unit as well. Additionally, it will have a bed capacity of several units, ample nursing stations, recovery room, holding area for natural calamity, beam theatre, an admin office and other salient delivery units among other facilities.
The project which is set to be completed in a period of six months is funded at a tune of Ksh. 20M. The County Government in providing universal healthcare to its citizens seeks to fulfil this mandate by ensuring adequate essential facilities at all its hospitals across the sub counties, this the administration intends to achieve by building additional facilities that can accommodate the growing number of basic needs in healthcare.
At Boro, the Governor has reiterated the need to improve maternal health by encouraging the development of the hospital at Boro and ensure the facility has caesarian section at the facility.

The new modern maternity wing once completed will cater for the increasing number of expectant mothers and in the control of other emerging health challenges coming with birth related cases and maternal issues. The modern maternity will serve a population of over 17000 residents and neighboring communities from Western Kenya. This is expected to enhance production hence reduced cases of mother to child death cases.
As part of improving healthcare provision in the county as Governor Orengo’s 9-Point Agenda unveiled during the last campaigns, Orengo has been in the limelight in promoting Community Health Promoters popularly known as Nyamrerwa for the spread of curative services at all its hospitals.
The Governor was accompanied by the County Secretary Mr. Joseph Ogutu, CECM Dr Martin Konyango (Health and Sanitation), his Chief Officer Dr. Samuel Omondi, Hon. Andrew Omwende (Sigomre Ward MCA), and a host of other County officials.
