A court in Nairobi has convicted four men over the brazen robbery attack that culminated in the fatal shooting of former Kabete Member of Parliament George Muchai and three of his aides in one of Kenya’s most shocking criminal cases.

Delivering judgment at the Milimani Law Courts, Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina found the accused guilty of multiple counts of robbery with violence after nearly a decade of investigations and courtroom proceedings.

The court convicted Eric Munyera Isabwa, Raphael Kimani Gachii, Mustafa Kimani Anyoni, and Stephen Astiva Lipopo after ruling that prosecutors had proved their involvement in the violent crimes beyond reasonable doubt.

The convictions stem from the chilling events of the night of February 6–7, 2015, when a heavily armed gang launched a brazen attack along Kenyatta Avenue in the heart of the capital.

During the ambush, the assailants fatally shot Muchai alongside his two bodyguards and driver, sending shockwaves across the country and triggering one of the most extensive criminal investigations in recent years.

Court proceedings revealed that the attackers not only carried out the deadly shooting but also embarked on a robbery spree, targeting unsuspecting members of the public and stealing valuables during the chaotic night.

In his judgment, Magistrate Onyina pointed to striking similarities across a series of robbery incidents linked to the gang. The prosecution demonstrated a consistent pattern in the number of attackers involved, the weapons used and the methodical coordination of the assaults.

According to the court, the evidence showed that the accused operated as part of a structured criminal enterprise responsible for multiple robberies during the period, reinforcing the prosecution’s case tying them to the fatal attack.

Beyond the counts related to the killing of the former legislator and his security team, the four men were also found guilty in additional robbery incidents connected to the same criminal network.

However, the court acquitted Simon Gichamba, ruling that the prosecution had failed to present sufficient evidence directly linking him to the offences.

The four convicted men are expected to return to court on March 18, 2026, for sentencing, where the court will determine the penalties for the offences, including robbery with violence and illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.

The verdict marks a major breakthrough in the long-running case, underscoring the persistence of investigators and prosecutors in pursuing justice for the victims of the deadly attack that stunned the nation.
