In a significant step toward intensifying global collaboration against cross-border criminal networks, Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Mohamed Amin represented Kenya at the high-profile Final Conference of Project ITEPA2 in Rome, Italy.
The event, held recently, marked the culmination of a flagship initiative aimed at fortifying law enforcement ties between African and European nations to dismantle transnational organised crime, migrant smuggling, and human trafficking operations.
Senior officials, policy experts, and international partners convened to evaluate the project’s implementation, celebrate major achievements, and chart pathways for enduring cross-border partnerships. The conference underscored the urgent need for shared intelligence, best practices, and operational synergies to disrupt sophisticated criminal syndicates threatening regional and global security.
Director Amin, who also serves on the African Interpol Executive Committee, was accompanied by key Kenyan delegation members including Mr. Samuel Laboso, Director of the Anti-Narcotics Unit; Mr. Marco Azarone, Italian Security Advisor to Kenya; and Mr. Some Nkai, Personal Assistant to the DCI Director.
Project ITEPA2 has focused on enhancing cooperation to combat illicit activities exploiting migration routes and porous borders, delivering tangible results in intelligence sharing and joint operations.
Amin’s participation highlights Kenya’s proactive stance in international security efforts. With over 30 years in the National Police Service—including expertise in criminology, forensics, terrorism investigations, and organised crime—the DCI Director brings extensive experience to such platforms. His leadership has been instrumental in advancing Kenya’s fight against complex threats, both domestically and abroad.
The Rome gathering reinforced that sustained Africa-Europe alliances remain essential in an era of evolving transnational threats, from human trafficking rings to cyber-enabled smuggling networks.
Kenya’s Directorate of Criminal Investigations continues to build on such engagements, strengthening ties that protect citizens and promote safer borders continent-wide.
This milestone underscores DCI’s commitment to collaborative, intelligence-driven strategies in the global war on organized crime.
