In a lively public engagement forum under the CFSP 2026/2027 process, residents of East Ugenya Ward in Siaya County celebrated a significant milestone: fully operational water boreholes now serving all six sub-locations in the ward. This development has dramatically eased access to clean water, marking a tangible deliverable from county investments in the region.
East Ugenya Ward, represented by Hon. Fredrick Oluoch Omoro (MCA), comprises five key sub-locations: Sihai, Ramunde, Kathieno A, Kathieno B, and Kathieno C. Community members praised the borehole rollout as a standout achievement, especially amid mixed reviews of project implementation in the previous financial year.
Residents also spotlighted untapped economic potential, urging leaders to position Ugenya Constituency as a prime tourism destination. They pointed to the majestic River Nzoia, which flows through the area and attracts wildlife including pythons and crocodiles. With proper management and safety measures, locals argued, this natural asset could drive substantial revenue through eco-tourism services, creating jobs and boosting local incomes.
However, not all feedback was celebratory. In a direct appeal during the forum, concerns were raised over a KSh 500,000 allocation to Luru Dispensary in Sihai sub-location. The funds were reportedly earmarked for fencing the facility as part of completed projects, yet residents claim the perimeter remains unfenced. They called for a transparent follow-up report from constituency administrators to clarify the status and ensure value for public money.
The forum outlined clear priorities from each sub-location moving forward:
– Sihai: Focus on education, roads, water tanks, and goal post construction.
– Kathieno A: Emphasis on health, youth affairs, and gender initiatives.
– Kathieno B: Roads and education top the list.
– Kathieno C: Trade, sports, roads, and water access.
– Ramunde: Early Childhood Development (ECD) centers and high mast lighting installation.
The session was attended by key figures including Area MCA Hon. Fredrick Omoro, Sub-County Administrator Mr. Vincent Oduor, and Sports Officer Mr. Joshua Odhimbo, who facilitated discussions and noted the inputs for incorporation into the upcoming budget frameworks.
These community-driven insights underscore Siaya County’s commitment to participatory governance, even as residents push for stronger oversight to match visible successes like water provision. As the CFSP process continues, East Ugenya’s voice signals both progress and the need for accountability to build trust and sustain development momentum.
