A fresh opinion poll from Mizani Africa has placed Deputy Governor Dr. William Oduol at the forefront of the Siaya gubernatorial contest for 2027. The survey shows Oduol leading with 27.9% voter preference, ahead of incumbent Governor James Orengo at 24.5% and former Rarieda MP Nicholas Gumbo at 19.8%. David Ochieng follows with 13.3%, while 14.5% of respondents remain undecided.
Released on February 19, 2026, the poll by Mizani Africa – a respected Kenyan firm known for accurate predictions in past elections – asked Siaya voters who they would support if elections were held today. The results highlight a competitive and fluid race in this key Luo Nyanza county.
Oduol’s edge stems from his consistent emphasis on accountability, anti-corruption measures, and good governance. As the current Deputy Governor, the PhD-holding certified public accountant has cultivated a reputation for ethical leadership, transparency, and community-focused initiatives. He formally announced his 2027 gubernatorial bid on an ODM ticket earlier this year, positioning himself as a candidate committed to real change.

In contrast, Governor Orengo’s performance rating stands at 41.7% approval in the same survey, reflecting challenges in local perception despite his strong national profile. Reports of leadership dynamics and occasional absences have contributed to questions about his standing at home.
Nicholas Gumbo, often described as experienced and reliable, holds third place but has faced criticism for sending mixed signals on political alignments and strategy. His position suggests room for growth, though clarity on direction will be key moving forward.
With a significant portion of voters still undecided, the race remains open to shifts through alliances, campaigns, and grassroots efforts. Oduol’s current lead appears rooted in longstanding voter recognition of his principles rather than short-term trends.
As discussions turn to potential running mates and campaign strategies, the 2027 Siaya gubernatorial contest is shaping up as one to watch closely.
