The latest beneficiary of the broadbased government arrangement is Jaoko Oburu Odinga, a son to Raila’s brother and Siaya Senator Oburu Oginga.
In a gleeful post on X Tuesday, April 22, Jaoko revealed that he has been appointed by President Dr William Samoei Ruto to the docket of Special Advisor, Economic Empowerment, and Sustainable Livelihoods.
Jaoko registered his gratitude to the Head of State for granting him the opportunity to serve in the government.
“I wish to take this opportunity to give special thanks to H.E. President William Samoei Ruto for granting me an opportunity to serve Kenyans by appointing me to serve in the capacity of Special Advisor, Economic Empowerment, and Sustainable Livelihoods. Thank you, Your Excellency,” read part of the statement.

Jaoko also thanked ODM Party leader Raila Odinga for having faith in him and creating an environment for Kenyans to work together.
“Thanks also, go to the Right Honourable Prime Minister, Hon. Raila Odinga, for showing his faith in me and for creating a conducive environment for Kenyans from all walks of life to work together for our beloved country, Kenya, in nation building,” Jaoko added.
In the run-up to the 2022 General Elections, Jaoko was part of a media strategy team that rallied support for Raila.
In 2024, Jaoko formed an international lobby named Friends of Baba (FOBA) to push for Raila’s election as the African Union Commission chairperson.
Jaoko Oburu has worked as a CECM in the Works Department at the Siaya County Government. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree majoring in Accounting and Finance from St Mary’s University in Canada.
