Siaya: Orengo Makes Landmark Announcement During Inspection of CGS Projects in Bondo

Siaya Governor James Aggrey Bob Orengo today Saturday May 4, 2025 made an impromptu site visit to several County Government of Siaya development projects in Bondo sub-County.

The Governor paid a visit to the Bondo sub-County Hospital that is undergoing intensive, general renovations to increase the size of the facility in preparation for upgrading.

The hospital currently boasts one of the most ultramodern funeral parlours in the region and now has a capacity to accommodate triple the old intake while ensuring high levels of refrigeration and dignified preservation of departed loved ones.

The parlour fully-funded by the county government has a section equipped with the latest forensic technology.

Governor Orengo also made a stopover at the maternity wing for which the county government has already earmarked a blueprint to overhaul and modernize.

Maternal healthcare has been a priority for the Nyalore administration with many maternity facilities rehabilitated by the county government focusing on providing additional privacy for mothers and newborns.

Thereafter the governor visited the demarcated site for the temporary Bondo market. The project aims at boosting trade in the rich lake-belt region and eliminating the perennial flooding and it’s concomitant disasters as experienced in the old market. He also addressed the issue of waste and garbage removal and issued a directive that the contractor working on the site takes immediate action.

The Governor, however, noted that all these was a stop-gap measure as traders will eventually shift to the multi-million municipal market that the county government working in conjunction with the national government intends to put up in Bondo, soon.

Meanwhile, the Governor promised to set up high-mast lighting and improved market structures to enable the anticipated 24-hour economy in Bondo town.

The Governor wound up his inspection tour by visiting the bus park. During the stopover the Governor noted that the bus park planning was done haphazardly and his administration intends to streamline the movement and parking of vehicles by constructing parking bays and covered canopies for travellers.

The Governor praised the residents of Bondo for working hand-in-hand with his administration to ensure an enabling environment for improved business opportunities and creation of employment opportunities for those engaged in the informal sector.

He emphasized that service delivery and infrastructure is one of the key pillars and benchmarks the Nayalore manifesto is anchored and that he will continue addressing challenges that affect the residents of Siaya, without fear or favor.

The Governor also paid a visit to the model Bar Kowino ECDE centre where the county government is building new blocks to house PP One, PP Two, playgroup, administration block and playground amenities. Once completed pupil intake is set to improve as it’s one of the centers benefitting under the county government sponsored fortified porridge and meal program. The Governor promised to second qualified   ECDE teachers that the county government has employed and put on permanent and pensionable basis in line with the provisions of the Nyalore manifesto.

The Governor issued a warning to contractors to observe strict timeliness and adhere to high standards of construction as set out in the initial planning.

Today’s order of inspection began at the  Bondo sub-County Hospital, then the  ECDE Centre at Bar Kowino followed by a stopover at the Bondo bus terminus  and concluded at the Check-point Mitumba market.

In his entourage the Governor was accompanied by County Secretary Joseph Ogutu, CECMs Lands and Physical Planning Engineer Mc’Orege, Health CECM Dr. Martin K’Onyango, Chief Officers, Lands Joseph Omondi, Education Richard Ogeda.

Also present was the Bondo sub-County Administrator Vincent Kanyagoda, Municipality manager Philip Mbindyo, Chief-of-Staff Cyrus Oguna, and distinguished area business personalities and traders among other County officials.

Governor James Aggrey Bob Orengo wound up the Bondo visit with a landmark, much-welcome announcement that brought a lot of relief for market traders selling goods on Thursdays and Saturdays. Forthwith the Governor has banned all market tariffs on these two days allowing market traders completely free sales without having to pay any cess or other duties.
